Welcome to our new website

I’m excited to at last be able to “lay it out” and be accessible to the big world of the internet.
Starting a web page is a bit like counselling. I started with – “I need to change this!”, moved to “How do I do this?” and finally getting some professional help to navigate the process well. Along the way I have had to really think about what I wanted, how I would want to communicate it and where it was likely to take me.
I appreciate any feedback on the site- what works, what doesn’t and where you think more information is needed- or less. Thanks for stopping by, and WELCOME!
About the bird. (Halcyon pic)
In my early nursing days, I met a beautiful Sri Lankan woman. Her name was Halcyon. Intrigued, I asked her what the name meant…
In Greek Mythology there was a bird called Halcyon (pronounced Hal- See- On) who was known to be able to create a floating nest on the ocean. The nesting time would coincide with 14 days of calm. Over time the Halcyon became associated with the gorgeous kingfisher famous for its long beak and colourful plumage and by 14th Century Halcyon became a word to describe calm days- “halcyon days”.
The imagery of a nest, a place of both refuge, safety and new life, floating on the uncertainty of the ocean has stayed with me and represents to me the capacity counselling has to be that nest despite the unstable nature of what you may be going through.
